Biography

Edmond Johnson holds a PhD in musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is currently serving as a Adjunct Instructor of Music History and Cultural Studies at Occidental Collece in Los Angeles. His principal area of research focuses on the revival of early music during the first half of the 20th century, with a particular emphasis on the movement's interdisciplinary connections, as well as its conjunction with modernism and neoclassical composition. Additionally, he is interested in issues of music and technological mediation, and his research has included work in the areas of film music, early phonograph culture, and mechanical instruments.

Edmond has presented papers at several national conferences, including at the American Musicological Society's 2008 meeting in Nashville. His dissertation, entitled "Revival and Antiquation: Modernism's Musical Pasts" was supported by two full-year dissertation fellowships from the University of California, as well as a European Studies Fellowship from the Borchard Foundation.
